What's new?

The content of this site has changed.
The content of this site has been updated on November 28, 2009 due to the fact that the author demanded a higher standard of transparency and methodology of himself.

How does this reflect the topics on this site?
Reviews which did not stand up to these higher demands were deleted, and will be added again when they meet the new standards.

Why was the content changed?
Due to the fact that the author has no scientific degree, the author recognises the fact that this means that the demands for a high-standard transparency and methodology are even more stringent than in the case of an article published in a scientific journal.

What does this mean for the current reviews on this site?
The viewer can see exactly how reviews were created. You can see:

  • The search term to search the scientific literature (no change).
  • The inclusion/exclusion criteria for articles (no change).
  • What data from scientific articles was used and how this data was interpreted (more stringent criteria).
  • How the evidence was judged (more stringent criteria).
  • A definition of the level of consumption at which an effect was found (added).

So what is different between the previous reviews and the current reviews?

  • As a result of this improved methodology, levels of evidence may have changed for certain dietary variables.
  • Since significant effects at any level of consumption were included for judging the evidence, this may have resulted in evidence for an effect for some dietary variables where no evidence was found in the first place.
  • Levels of evidence were judged according to significant findings at any level of consumption. This way it is possible to include significant effects from intermediate levels of consumption, and thus determine a possible level of evidence for an intermediate level of consumption.
