Bananas and colorectal cancer.

Colon cancer risk: Data about the relation between bananas and colon cancer risk was provided by a pooled analysis of 10 cohorts (29). (Non)significant protective effects were found with any level of consumption. And the protective effect became significant at the intake of ≥ 1 banana/week (though the trend was not significant).
Rectal cancer risk: Data about the relation with rectal cancer risk was provided by 3 cohorts (6, 9). No associations were found.
Colorectal cancer risk: Data from an article about 1 cohort was not stratified by cancer site (though information about colon cancer was used by the pooled analysis). No association was found (23).

Conclusion: (Non)significant protective effects against colon cancer risk were found with any level of consumption in a pooled analysis of 10 cohorts, This effect became significant at the level of consumption of ≥ 1 banana/week. Bananas possibly protect against total colon cancer risk at the level of consumption of ≥ 1 banana/week. The effect size was the strongest at 1 banana/wk to < 0.5 banana/day (- 16%). Suggestive evidence for a protective effect was found with lower consumption.
