Mushrooms and colorectal cancer.

Colon cancer risk: Data about the relation between mushrooms and colon cancer risk was provided by 3 cohorts (6, 9). No associations were found.
Rectal cancer risk: Data about the relation between mushrooms and rectal cancer risk was provided by 3 cohorts (6, 9). No significant associations were found.
Mortality: Data about mushrooms/fungi was provided by 2 cohorts. One cohort examined the association with mushrooms, and total fungi (22). No associations were found with mushrooms, but among women a significantly increased rectal mortality risk was found of fungi consumption.
No association between mushrooms and total colorectal cancer mortality was found in one cohort of very small size (21).

Conclusion: A significantly increased risk of rectal cancer mortality among women was found in one cohorts, but no other associations were found. No evidence was found for an association between mushrooms and colorectal, colon, or rectal cancer.
