Prunes/plums and colorectal cancer.

Plums: Data about plums was provided by 2 cohorts (6). No association was found with colon or rectal cancer risk.
Prunes: Data about prunes was provided by 3 cohorts. The relation with colon cancer risk was examined in 2 cohorts (6), and an increased risk was found in both. The average RR = 1.57.
No association was found with rectal (6) or total colorectal (23) cancer risk.

Conclusion: Increased colon cancer risks of prunes were found in 2 cohorts of moderate size. No other associations were found. Prunes possibly increase total colon cancer risk (+ 57%). No level of consumption could be defined for the association.
