Green and/or leafy vegetables and all-cause mortality/survival cancer.

(Green) leafy vegetables: Data about leafy vegetables was provided by 3 cohorts, including a total of 18,275 cases. Significant protective effects were found in 2 cohorts (5, 32) and in the third cohort among subjects from the Spanish subcohort, but not among subjects with diabetes mellitus (21).
The average RR for green leafy vegetables was 0.92. For including data from Iso H (32) in this analysis, the median of RR's was used for both green leafy vegetable groups.
Green vegetables: Data about green vegetables was provided by 3 cohorts. A significant protective effect was found in one cohort (13). No association was found in the remaining cohorts (1, 12).

Conclusion: Significant protective effects of (green) leafy vegetables were found in 2 cohorts of moderate-large size, and in part of a third cohort (93% of all cases). Green leafy vegetables possibly protect against mortality (- 8%).
