Green and/or leafy vegetables and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Data about green (leafy) vegetables was provided by 3 cohorts. Significant protective associations were found in 2 cohorts (3, 6), and among overweight women in the 3rd cohort (8).

Conclusion: Significant protective associations of green (leafy) vegetables against type 2 diabetes risk were found in 2 cohorts, one of which was of very small size. Suggestive evidence was found for a protective effect of green (leafy) vegetables against risk of type 2 diabetes.
